Maker's Night competition: Excellence Award

WHY

While assisting over 500 students in the Makerspace, I identified a substantial need to improve the surface quality of their 3D-printed projects.

I aimed to build low cost DIY acetone smoothing chamber for 3D print surface refining purpose.

Acetone vapor provide a glossy finish to ABS materials. However, these devices were priced at over $8000. Consequently, the decision was made to engineer similar chambers for under $200 using 3D printed structure, Arduino, a fan, and acetone. The equipment utilizes a 3D column structure to vaporize acetone within the chamber efficiently, smoothing the surface of 3D- printed materials.

How

Constructing a machine purely from my ideas was followed by significant troubleshooting to refine and perfect the design.

I constructed a vaporizer using stick filters made from 3D printing, designed to channel acetone over the wide surface area of cylinders.

What

Presenting an Acetone Sauna at the Maker's Night competition.

The design includes a fan, timer, and switch, all functionally integrated through Arduino.
