Recycle Makeathon: Top Award
Cybele, the goddess of death and rebirth, inspired our team's mission to repurpose the waste materials generated in Makerspace, giving them a second life.
Development
Makerspace produces substantial waste, like 3D printer filament scraps, unused MDF pieces from laser cutting, and other residues. This waste, if not appropriately managed, could pose environmental challenges.
Our solution involved grinding and breaking down these colorful wastes into small pieces, which we then encased in resin within a square box (sourced from discarded filament packaging) to create a plate.
Once the plate hardened, we used a laser cutter to shape it into unique designs that could be assembled into speakers, clocks, and phone stands.
Result
We documented this process in an easy-to-follow instruction guide, enabling students to replicate our upcycling method. This initiative helps manage the waste from the Makerspace and adds value by transforming it into functional products.
We showcased our Cybele upcycling kit at the Recycle Makeathon.
I took part in manufacturing and polishing the plate and presenting it.
