Next Generation City Action 2023: Best Collaborator Award

Nestation is dedicated to the mission of preserving the Earth and aiding humanity. We aimed to establish a clean, sustainable haven that respites those impacted by severe temperatures and air pollution. Additionally, we sought to harness energy from the sun and wind using a sunflower-inspired solution, contributing an eco-friendly aesthetic to urban landscapes.

Why

In collaboration with K-water, we addressed environmental challenges in the newly constructed Eco-Delta City in Busan. During our site visit, we became acutely aware of the extreme climate – characterized by intense heat and humidity- which severely limits outdoor activities for older people and children. Additionally, the proximity of the airport, harbor, and industrial plants contributed to significant air pollution in the area.

Solution

Our vision was to create a solution that serves as a shelter and a nest, offering air conditioning, free water, and clean air. This space is designed to be a comfortable area where individuals can rest while waiting for the bus. Recognizing that bus stations are vital hubs within a city, we believed that even minor modifications could significantly enhance many people's daily lives.

Moreover, distinguishing our design from existing smart bus stations across the city, we envisioned our station as energy-independent. It would harness solar and wind energy through an energy collector designed to resemble and function like a sunflower. This innovative approach promotes sustainability and adds an eco-friendly aesthetic to the cityscape.

Presentation

We showcased our concept at the Next Generation City Action 2023, a segment of the UIA conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Competing alongside representatives from seven countries — India, Colombia, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Korea, and Denmark — and numerous startups, we presented our insights on technology designed to be inclusive and accessible, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Within my team, I held key responsibilities:

  1. As the team presenter, I delivered the final speech, communicating our project's vision and details.

  2. I was instrumental in planning and developing the overall functionalities of the station, ensuring a cohesive and efficient design.

  3. I also oversaw and reviewed the engineering aspects of the solar and wind energy components, ensuring their optimal integration and performance.
